The "original specification request" on the jcp.org page lists the
original submitter but folks are implicitly expected to contact the
expert group following its creation. This is very poorly communicated, I
know. It just occurred to me that the PMO could replace my phone number
and email address with "contact expert group" or the like and I've just
sent mail to them requesting this.
But to clarify, I disconnected from JSR 121 some months ago and have
nothing to do with the expert group or anything else related to 121. I'm
learning to work on some core libraries and add my teaspoon to the
library expert's tea cups as we empty a lake full of RFEs and bugs. That
is, I don't expect the freedom to work on anything else for a long time
to come.
However I can't resist adding a parting remark in response to Curt's msg
about MVM. This was exciting news. Congratulations to Greg, Glenn,
Laurent and Mick: I know you guys knocked yourselves out for many months
to make this happen!
I notice on Greg's blog (http://weblogs.java.net/blog/gczaj/ ) that one
must "get the JDK Researcher role" to be able to download MVM. I tried
the link Greg provides for applying for this role
(https://jdk.dev.java.net/servlets/ProjectMembershipRequest ), which I
believe is dependent on having already registered with java.net. I
clicked on the researcher role but then thought I'd barked up the wrong
tree as I ended up with a msg about a submission to somebody I don't
know about the "JDK Collection of projects". That is, I thought
automatic mail had been sent and a response from somebody was going to
be necessary to proceed, and involving the wrong project.
However I revisited the the project page (https://mvm.dev.java.net/) and
the content magically appeared instead of the msg about needing the
role. I didn't try the download link and can't say if there is more
process to deal with there.
But I didn't want to mislead anybody about being involved with the "JDK
Collection of projects" (but this may encompase MVM: I don't know but
hopefully Greg or somebody can explain). So I got to the page for
updating my profile (http://today.java.net/cs/user/home ) and undid my
researcher role for this project. And sure enough, trying to visit the
MVM project page again resulted in the msg about needing a researcher role.
So, best wishes, all you future Java Researchers!
-Pete
