Why RIP?

>From time to time I have downloaded HotJava to kick the tires.
Usually something goes wrong with either the install, or the launch.
This time, everything went without a hitch.

I visited some sites and HotJava still performs very reasonably,
despite age and neglect.  I really whish that Sun would open-source
the software that is EOLed.  Other companies, too, but Sun has far
more EOLed software that interests me than other companies.

If there was something to be learned by writing the code,
surely there is something to be learned from reading the code.
