Indeed; the only reliability problems I've had with Java have come down 
to the underlying Unix system...

Right now, I'm battling with a Linux kernel that overcommits memory and 
has no option to turn it off, so rather than getting OutOfMemory being 
thrown, I get random processes being killed! Grrr.
